Autonomy

In 1988, Andhra Loyola College was granted autonomy by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi , for its excellent contribution to the field of higher education. The Certificates for the Under Graduate and Post Graduate Courses are awarded by Acharya Nagarjuna University .

   
Semester System

The College has adopted the semester system. The academic year consists of two semesters, each with 90 working days. The Odd Semesters (I, III & V) are from July to November, and the Even Semesters (II. IV & VI) are from December to April.

   
The Faculty

there are 176 well qualified full time lectures. Among them thirty three staff members hold Doctoral degrees.

   
The Mentoring system

has been introduced so that the staff can monitor the academic and psychological growth of students and also to accompany their wards towards emotional maturity

   
English for Communicative Skills

With a special accent on communicative skills, the syllabus for General English for I & II year students has been thoroughly revamped and redesigned. With the new system of ‘Streaming', students are streamlined according to their standard of English into three categories, with each stream having its own curriculum, pedagogy, and evaluation. Language lab has been established

   
Two Mid-Semester tests, assignments & marks for attendance are part of the Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) system for which 50% of marks in each subject are allotted. The other 50% are allotted for the Semester End Examinations (SEE).
   

Project work is compulsory for all the final year degree students in order to expose them to the fascinating world of research and also to develop in them a problem-solving approach.

   

Adequate importance is given to Extra Curricular Activities like sports & games, cultural events, essay writing competitions, etc.

 

Extension Services: Stress on service-orientation and social responsibility remains a significant component of our educational thrust. All first year students will put in 50 Hours of community service under the scheme ALERT. It is a mandatory requirement of the Degree Course.

   
For the Degree students, a weeklong cultural festival called “ Sphoorti ” is organised to bring out their hidden talents through inter-collegiate competitions
   

Participation in co-curricular activities like NCC, NGC or NSS is compulsory. The College has all the four wings of NCC: Army, Navy, Air Wing & Remount & Veterinary Regiment, three divisions of NSS and NGC (National Green Corps).

   

Religious Instruction for Christian students and Value Education for all others are part of the curriculum.

   

Career Guidance & Student Counselling facilities are available in the campus.

   

The Vice Principals, Deans of Arts, Science, & Student Affairs help the College administration.

   
The College has a 54-year long unique history of combining the relevant academic programme with a student-oriented, disciplined, well balanced, socially committed and eco-friendly atmosphere in the vast campus. A galaxy of former students like Dr.Y.S Raja Sekhar Reddy, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of A.P speaks volumes of the great traditions of this noble institution.
   

COMPULSORY COMPUTER COURSE FOR ALL FIRST YEAR DEGREE STUDENTS:

   

Compulsory Spoken English for all the second year degree ‘C' stream students.

   

Note: As per the order from the AP State Government and the University, use of mobile phones and any sort of ragging in the campus are banned.
